David Tumlin
Sr. Network Security Engineer
- What does your job at Future Com entail?
- I recommend, design, deploy, and assess networking and security solutions for our customers. I am often involved in every aspect of product deployment, from the selection of a vendor or hardware platform, through all steps to the move into a production environment.
- How long have you been with Future Com?
- I have worked for Future Com since October 2007.
- What is your Favorite book, movie, or TV show?
- The main criterion I require from a TV show (and, to a lesser degree, a book) is that I get new and interesting information at frequent intervals. I can spend hours on History Channel, Discovery, PBS, Smithsonian, Nat Geo, etc., in rapt attention to whatever documentary program is airing, provided it is novel and engaging.
- What about your favorite food?
- My favorite food is usually the “next”. I do not care if it is a two dollar bahn mi from a tiny storefront or a ten-plus course tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant. I enjoy new tastes, so the next dining experience is always the best.
- If you could have dinner with 4 people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
- George Washington – His wisdom and sense of duty to his fellow citizens sets a standard that all leaders aspire to.
- Warren Buffett – He has proven to be not only an astute and practical investor, but seems to have a long term view of his business and the economy.
- Eddy Merckx – As an avid cyclist, a chance to meet arguably the greatest professional cyclist known for his boldness and tenacity, would be a thrill.

- If you could have dinner with 4 people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
- My guests would be Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Nicola Tesla, and Stephen Jobs. The dinner conversation would be about the process of invention: How do you go from simple curiosity to theory to practical experimentation to the ultimate working invention? And the fact that Edison and Tesla despised each other and invented entirely different approaches to the same problems would make the conversation that much more lively.
